Appointments

All surgeries are booked by appointment. To make an appointment please call in at the surgery or telephone between 

08:00 - 18:00. If your problem is urgent a member of the health care team will see you on the same day. 

Telephone Advice

For advice or in cases of emergency during surgery hours please call 0161 427 2049. A receptionist is always available and if you would like advice from a doctor or nurse you may be asked to call back at an arranged time.

Training Practice

Marple Bridge has been selected to be a training practice and from time to time a fully qualified registered doctor will be working with us undergoing additional training. We may also on occasion videotape surgeries to help improve our consultations. You will always be asked in advance for your consent and are entirely free to decline.

Extended Hours Appointment Service

All patients registered with a GP practice in Stockport can now book a routine appointment, up to two weeks in advance, in the evenings and Saturdays & Sundays.

You may not be able to see your own GP but you will be seen by a suitably qualified health professional such as another GP, Healthcare Assistant (HCA), or practice nurse.

You can book an appointment up to two weeks in advance by calling the main number of your own GP practice.

• Monday to Friday: 6.30pm-8pm (Kingsgate Hub, Wellington Road, Stockport SK4 1LW)
• Saturdays & Sundays: 8am-12pm or 9am-1pm (Practice Hub, alternating weekends) and 9am-4.30pm (Kingsgate Hub)
• Bank Holidays: 8am-12pm or 9am-1pm (except 25 Dec, 26 Dec or 1 Jan)

Home Visits

Please try to attend the surgery if at all possible as it takes much longer for the doctor to see you at home and they may need facilities which are only available in the surgery.  If a home visit is necessary, please try to let us know as early as possible, preferably between 8.00am and 9.30am so that the doctors' visiting rounds may be planned efficiently.  However if you request a visit please note this request will be assessed by a doctor and they may contact you to discuss your condition and make any necessary arrangements for you to be seen  -  this could be either at home, if deemed to be necessary by the doctor and you are genuinely housebound, or at the surgery if more appropriate.  In some cases you may be advised to go directly to hospital for treatment.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP or following hospital discharge.

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work - ’Fit Note'

The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.
